CAN I TRUST ONE DOCTOR FOR MY MEDICAL CARE AND COSMETIC PROCEDURES?

By working in an urgent care setting in over 10 years, Dr. Soleiman has had hands-on experience with surgical procedures and urgent medical conditions.  She has also had extensive separate training specifically in cosmetic injectables (no lasers or peels).  These experiences, along with her passion for art (see sculpture done by Dr. Soleiman on Cosmetic tab) makes her an excellent primary medical care physician with a keen eye for cosmetic injectable procedures.

WHY GO TO A FAMILY DOCTOR?

A family physician is your center between all of your specialist visits and hospitalizations.  We provide preventive care and screen for all appropriate cancers and diseases.  We can advise you with your medical decisions and help you choose which specialists to go to when necessary.  With your help, we keep track of your medical records so that in case of emergency, you have all your health information in one place.

WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A GENERAL PRACTICE DOCTOR, A FAMILY DOCTOR, AND AN INTERNIST?

Family Physician (also known as Family Practice Doctor):

A Family Physician (also known as a family doctor or family practice physician) has three years of residency training after medical school in many different fields including pediatrics, OBGYN (obstetrics and gynecology), and dermatology.  He/She is then eligible to become board certified (further tests required).

General Practice Physician (also known as General Doctor):

A General Practice Doctor is only required to have one year of residency after medical school, and cannot become board certified.

Internal Medicine Doctor (also known as an Internist):

An Internal Medicine Physician has three years of residency training after medical school.  However, the focus is more on internal organs of the body and in-hospital care.  Pediatrics and OBGYN are not a standard part of the training.  If all three years are completed, he/she is then eligible to become board certified (further tests required).

WHAT IS BOARD CERTIFICATION?

In order to become board certified and remain board certified, a family practice physician must have over 50 hours of formal CME (continued medical education) each year and pass a board certification/recertification exam every seven years.  Each specialty in medicine has its own requirements as to how often the exam must be taken, for the hours of CME, and for other detailed specifications.
